Limestone Coast's tummy-led tourism

Limestone Coast Food has a new food trail, a new website and a new food tourism CD for industry.

The epicurean delights of the Limestone Coast region are being heralded far and wide.

Mahalia Lazell, Layzell CoffeeThe Limestone Coast Food Group Inc. has been busy promoting its local regional produce, with a new food trail, new website and new food tourism CD. The Limestone Coast Real Food Trail (formally the Pie, Platters and Produce Trail Project) was launched in late February and already is attracting good crowds.


According to Food Trail project manager Jenni Ling, the Trail is divided into five business development categories supporting business and employment growth for Food Group members, tourism operators, producers and catering ventures throughout the region: Limestone Coast Real Food Trail; Professional Skills Development; Business Promotion; New Business Opportunities; Best Practice Tool Kit and Business Partnerships.


"The Real Food Trail is 'tummy-led tourism' across the Limestone Coast region," she said. "The aim is to encourage visitors to stay another day in the region, thereby growing the regional food and tourism businesses."


The Trail meanders through a kaleidoscope of food and wine experiences including restaurants and cafes; artisan food producers such as Beckonbees and Humbugz Honey; cellar doors including Cape Jaffa Wines and Bowen Estate; retail shops such as Robe Bakery; farm gate sales at Aitken's Cherries and Coorong Wild Seafood and culinary food activities such as Joanne's Espresso Express.Jenni said the new-look website, located at www.limestonecoastfood.com.au, is fresh and appealing - ‘just like the food and wine producers it represents'.

The user-friendly website will be a useful tool for businesses both within and outside the region to locate fresh and unique products. It profiles more than 100 producers, retailers and food service providers from across the south-east corner of South Australia, and contains contact details, a seasonal produce calendar and downloadable copies of the Real Food Directory.

The CD, priced at $10, contains a food tourist tool kit for food industry users. It provides ‘at your fingertips' support to food producers throughout South Australia on ways to grow and value add to their business through food tourism experiences.
