Product lines include John West Tuna Tempters, Leggo’s Pasta Meals, Gravox and Maggi Liquid Sauces and Gravies, Continental Flavour Bases and Rafferty’s Garden Lumpy Range (baby) Dinner Pouches.
Port Lincoln Tuna Processors was established on the pristine waters of Port Lincoln by a group of local fishermen in 1972. Initially the business’ strength was canning the catch of its, and other fishermen’s catches. However, over the years it has branched out into new manufacturing opportunities. While canning is still a key focus for the business, it underwent a major expansion around seven years ago and introduced ‘pouch’ production to accommodate the growing trend towards food products being packaged in pouches.
Today, Port Lincoln Tuna Processors boasts two canning lines and five ‘pouch’ lines and provides quality canned tuna and salmon, various pouch products and Sashimi processing. The business processes the equivalent of around 5000 tonne of Skipjack tuna alone each year. The business is also a major employer in the region, employing around 300 staff.
General Manager Lea Traeger said diversifying had been a key to the business’ enduring success.
"By thinking outside of the square in terms of what we can offer manufacturers and maintaining a high level of quality, we’ve been able to expand our client base and maintain production levels,"
Lea said.Operations manager Larry Vallance said Port Lincoln Tuna Processor’s strength in co-manufacturing was a win-win for the business and its clients
"It means businesses don’t have to worry about having their own food processing facility and all the work and regulations that go along with that. We ensure their products are produced in a high grade, state of the art processing facility and they get to brand the products as their own."
