Agrifood Forum established

A 'cross industry' communication forum has been established to address common issues that affect Agrifood sectors.

A new Agrifood Forum has been established to work alongside the Premier’s Food Council.

The Agrifood Forum brings together representatives from all Industry Development Boards and relevant sector representation to focus on addressing common 'rate limiters' or impediments to the growth of the various food-related industries.

"The Forum will allow us to work together, rather than in isolation, to highlight and address common issues that impact on more than one industry," said Vicki Mavrakis, Executive Officer of the Premier’s Food Council.

"Whether it be an issue around transportation or infrastructure, for example, it allows us to look at initiatives that may benefit more than one industry."

Membership of the Agrifood Forum consists of a range of Industry Development Board Chairs and sector representatives, including:

  • Premier's Food Council Executive
  •
  • SA Wine Industry Council
  •
  • Dairy Industry Development Board
  •
  • Beef Industry Development Board
  •
  • Sheep Industry Development Board
  •
  • Pork Industry Development Board
  •
  • Horticulture Industry Development Board
  •
  • SA Chicken Meat Council
  •
  • Seafood Federation Inc
  •
  • Citrus Industry Development Board
  •
  • SAFF Grains Committee

Vicki said the Forum would play an important role in helping to implement Agrifood plans and ensure alignment between the upcoming Agrifood Strategy and the relevant sector plans. For example, the Forum would:

  • Make recommendations for referral of issues to the  Premier’s Food Council Forum/Executive or Food and Wine Issues Group
  • Identify, develop and implement strategies for collaboration with other sectors    to address common issues
  • Provide advice and comment     on issues and outcomes identified by the Premier’s Food Forum, Executive or Food and Wine Issues Group.

She said members of the Agrifood Forum would express the collective views of their Industry Development Board or sector at meetings but work toward achieving overall growth for the South Australian food industry.

"Industry Development Board Chairs and sector representatives will then communicate outcomes of the Agrifood Forum back to scheduled meetings of Industry Development Boards or sector organisations."
