'An innovative and internationally competitive food industry that contributes $15 billion per year to the economy of South Australia by 2010' The State Food Plan 2004-2007 maps the next stage of the journey towards sustained international competitiveness of the food industry in South Australia. The Plan was developed by industry and government, under the leadership of the Premier’s Food Council, with the goal of increasing the value of the South Australian food industry to $15 billion by 2010. |
An evaluation of the current 2004-2007 State Food Plan has recently been completed as part of the process for developing the next 2007-2010 South Australian Food Plan.
This report documents the findings of the evaluation of the South Australian Food Plan 2004-2007, together with recommendations for future Food Plans. The evaluation draws upon the opinions of food industry stakeholders and reports containing information on delivery of the Plan and associated programs.
98% of respondents indicated their desire to develop a further South Australian Food Plan for the period 2007 to 2010. Respondents considered the broad thrust of the current Plan—international competitiveness and value-adding to commodity products—to be appropriate. Whilst industry stakeholders considered the focus appropriate it is our view the vision itself is flawed in a number of ways including:
