A new training program is set to help small to medium food producers in South Australia develop their businesses.
A series of ‘bite-sized’ workshops for busy food producers has been launched.
The Food Producers’ Training Program 2008 offers a wide range of half and full day workshops tailored to the needs of the food industry.
Catherine Barnett, Executive Officer of Flavour SA says offering "short and practical workshops that can be applied directly to food businesses is the key."
The short course program covers three main themes: Managing Your Business Risks, Growing Your Business and Understanding Your Products.
The workshops include:
The program is being delivered at the Urrbrae Education Centre and is the result of a strategic partnership between TAFE SA and Flavour SA.
Industry specialists from the legal and accounting professions, food technologists and public relations consultants will work alongside lecturing staff to present the training workshops.
The training program has been developed from accredited units from Certificate levels 1, 2 and 3 in Food Processing as well as the Diploma of Wine and Food.
Iconic South Australian chef Simon Bryant who launched the program says the courses are a welcome addition to the industry.
"Sometimes businesses need to close the door for a day to ask for help and learn in order to grow their business and get things right," says Simon.
