Food South Australia to unite industry

Food South Australia is an exciting new unified voice delivering programs and results for South Australia’s dynamic food industry. The formation of Food SA reflects the amalgamation of Food Adelaide and Flavour SA, with members agreeing this week to unite and provide a central delivery to industry of key services. Food SA’s role will be to provide leadership to the food industry and become recognised as the peak body in the State. Food SA aims to help facilitate industry growth, increase exports, create employment and match international buyers with South Australian manufacturers. A strategic plan is already well under development with plans for growing membership and becoming self sustainable. The Hon Minister Michael O'Brien, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries also announced on Wednesday at a Flavour SA Networking Night that PIRSA would be supporting Food SA's establishment by providing $2.2 million over four years to invest in the delivery of capability and market development programs across industry and the regions, as well as help the association move towards a sustainable future.

Consumers hold the key to food industry growth

Listening to consumers and monitoring consumer trends is the key to food industry growth according to the market intelligence report released this week by PIRSA. The report, Food Consumption and Consumers: Who, What, Where and Why, details the issues that are shaping consumer trends across the food industry. It offers insight into opportunities for differentiation and growth in the marketplace, highlighting why consumers make particular purchase decisions and what value they perceive in products. Included within the report is information and tools that food industry businesses can use to become more consumer-driven. Hon Michael O’Brien MP, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries launched the report at a Flavour SA industry networking night held at the Adelaide Central Market Kitchen, with over 80 food industry professionals attending. A real life case study on South Australian business Tucker’s Natural was also developed to support the report, demonstrating the importance of connecting consumer trends with product and marketing.
